Overview of Mohare Danda Trek
If you are looking for a short Himalayan trek that gives you beautiful mountain views without putting you into one of Nepal’s busiest trekking trails, the Mohare Danda Trek is worth considering.
Mohare Danda is a peaceful ridge in the Annapurna region of Nepal, reaching approximately 3,300 meters. The trek combines Himalayan scenery with forest trails, traditional villages, terraced farmland and community-run accommodation. From the ridge, trekkers can enjoy impressive views toward Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Nilgiri and other peaks of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.
But what makes Mohare Danda special is not only the view from the top.
The experience begins much earlier, when the road leaves Pokhara and enters the hills around Myagdi. The trail becomes quieter, villages become smaller, and the walking experience becomes more connected to local life. Instead of spending every night in a large commercial trekking settlement, you stay in community lodges and homestays where local families are directly involved in welcoming trekkers.
At Igloo Himalaya Treks, we recommend Mohare Danda to travelers who want to experience the Annapurna region at a slower and more personal pace. It is particularly attractive for travelers who have already heard about Poon Hill but would prefer a quieter trail and a stronger village experience.
Our standard package is designed as a 9-day journey from arrival in Kathmandu to departure, while the actual mountain trekking section is shorter. The itinerary can also be customized according to your available time, transportation preference and fitness level.

Why Choose the Mohare Danda Trek?
There are many trekking routes in Nepal, so it is natural to ask why you should choose Mohare Danda.
The answer is simple:
Mohare Danda gives you a different kind of Himalayan experience.
You are not going there only to reach a high altitude.
You are going to walk through villages.
You are going to spend time in forests.
You are going to wake up above the clouds.
You are going to meet families who live along the trail.
And you are going to experience a quieter side of the Annapurna region.
The trail passes through areas where agriculture, livestock, community projects and tourism exist side by side. This gives the trek a very different feeling from routes where large numbers of trekkers arrive every day.
For travelers who want spectacular Himalayan scenery but do not want their entire trip to feel like a busy tourist route, Mohare Danda is one of the most attractive short trekking options in the Annapurna region.
What Makes Mohare Danda Different?
The first thing many travelers notice is the quietness.
The famous Poon Hill route is an excellent trek, but its popularity means that the viewpoint and trail can become busy during the main trekking seasons.
Mohare Danda offers another option.
You can still enjoy sunrise over the Himalayan range, but the journey is more focused on village life, community accommodation and peaceful walking.
Another important difference is the accommodation model. Community lodges and homestays are an important part of the experience. Instead of thinking of accommodation simply as a place to sleep, we encourage our clients to see it as part of the trek itself.
A warm meal prepared by a local family, a conversation around the dining room, the sound of the fire in the evening and the early-morning preparation for sunrise are all part of what makes Mohare Danda memorable.
Mohare Danda Trek Route
Our 9-day itinerary follows this general route:
Kathmandu → Pokhara → Galeshwor → Banskharka → Nangi → Mohare Danda → Tikot → Tiplyang → Pokhara → Kathmandu
The walking section begins after the drive to Galeshwor.
From there, the trail gradually climbs through villages, forests and agricultural landscapes before reaching the higher ridge around Mohare Danda.
After enjoying the sunrise and mountain views, the route descends toward Tikot and eventually reaches Tiplyang, where road transportation takes you back toward Pokhara.
The route is not about rushing from one famous viewpoint to another. The strength of Mohare Danda is the journey between those places.
Trip Highlights
- Sunrise from Mohare Danda Summit : Watch golden light spread across the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Machhapuchhre ranges from a peaceful 360-degree viewpoint, without the crowds found at Poon Hill.
- Rhododendron Forests : Walk through dense, blooming rhododendron, oak, and magnolia forests, especially spectacular in spring (March–April) when the trail turns into a tunnel of red and pink blossoms.
- Authentic Gurung and Magar Villages : Pass through traditional settlements like Ulleri and Ghandruk, known for stone-paved streets, terraced farmland, and rich local culture largely untouched by mass tourism.
- Community-Run Eco Lodges : Stay in lodges owned and operated by local cooperatives, offering a chance to directly support village communities while enjoying warm hospitality and home-cooked meals.
- Quiet, Off-the-Beaten-Path Trail : Experience the beauty of the Annapurna region on a far less crowded route than Annapurna Base Camp, making it ideal for those seeking solitude, nature, and a genuine mountain escape.
