12 Days

Overview

The trek where every step is worth it. The Manaslu Circuit Trek 12 days is one of the most rewarding remote Himalayan adventures for travelers wanting authentic mountain culture and dramatic landscapes. Located in the Gorkha district of Nepal, this trail circles the world’s eighth highest peak, Mount Manaslu (8,163 m). Manaslu circuit trek 12 days in Nepal offers a quieter, more intimate alternative to the popular Everest and Annapurna routes, yet delivers equally spectacular high altitude scenery. The journey moves through ancient Tibetan influenced villages, terraced farmlands, dense Rhododendron forests, and glacial river valleys that few visitors ever witness. Crossing the challenging Larkya La Pass (5,106 metres) remains the trek’s crowning moment, rewarding hikers with sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek 12 days is one in a lifetime journey through remote Himalayan foothills around the world’s eighth highest peak, Mt. Manaslu (8,163m). This 12 days condensed timeline saves critical travel time by skipping traditional lower trail sections, utilizing rugged off-road jeep transport to drive from Kathmandu directly to the trailhead at Machha Khola (890m).

About Manaslu Circuit Trek 12 Days

The Manaslu Circuit Trek 12 days route starts along the Budhi Gandaki River, passing through deep gorges, natural hot springs at Tatopani, and swinging suspension bridges before reaching the checkpoint at Jagat. As you climb higher through Deng and Namrung, the forests grow thicker and the culture shifts completely to Tibetan Buddhism, with prayer flags, mani walls, and ancient monasteries lining the trail.

The village of Lho offers one of the best close-up views of Manaslu’s twin peaks, making it a favourite stop for trekkers and photographers alike. A rest day in Samagaon is required to help your body adjust to the high altitude, and a short side trip to the beautiful Birendra Lake is highly recommended. The trail then continues to Samdo, a quiet remote village sitting close to the Tibet border, before reaching the high camp at Dharamsala at 4,460 metres. This is where trekkers rest and prepare for the hardest day of the entire Manaslu circuit trek 12 days.

Crossing the Larkya La Pass at 5,106 metres begins before sunrise, using headlamps and microspikes on icy ground.

From the top, you get stunning views of Himlung Himal and Kang Guru before a long, steep descent to the green meadows of Bimthang. The final days follow the Dudh Khola River through beautiful rhododendron forests down to Dharapani, where the route meets the Annapurna Circuit trail. From Tiliji we take a 3hr ride to Besisahar.

The trek ends with a jeep and bus ride back to Kathmandu via Besisahar. Because this is a fast-paced itinerary, trekkers must be physically fit and maintain a steady pace to avoid altitude sickness. Solo trekking is not allowed in this restricted zone, so a licensed guide and a minimum group of two people are required by the Nepal government. Overall, the Manaslu Circuit Trek is a perfect mix of mountain culture, natural beauty, and high altitude adventure for anyone looking for a challenging path trekking experience in Nepal.

Manaslu Circuit Trek 12 days Route

The kickoff begins from Kathmandu where we take a drive to Machha Khola.

The adventure begins at Machha Khola, a small riverside village at 900 metres where the mighty Budhi Gandaki River sets the rhythm of the trail. From the very first steps, the route pulls you deep into narrow gorges, past thundering waterfalls, terraced rice fields, and traditional villages that feel completely untouched by modern life. By the time you reach the permit checkpoint at Jagat and push through Deng into the thickening forests, you already sense that this is no ordinary trek; this is Nepal at its most raw and real beauty.

The higher you climb, the more the world changes around you. By the time Namrung appears at 2,630 metres, the jungle has given way to alpine forest and Tibetan Buddhist culture fills every corner of the trail with prayer flags, spinning mani wheels, ancient chortens, and the distant chanting of monks. Lho village comes into view at 3,180 metres, where Manaslu’s dramatic double summit rises directly above you like a wall of ice and rock.

Samagaon at 3,530 metres is your base for a crucial rest day, and a short hike to the surreal turquoise waters of Birendra Lake makes it one of the most memorable days on the entire circuit. Beyond here, the trail enters the wind-swept high altitude terrain of Samdo, sitting close to the Tibetan border, before climbing to the final camp at Dharamsala at 4,460 metres. Sleep comes early here because tomorrow, before the sun rises, the hardest and most thrilling day of the trek begins.

Crossing the Larkya La Pass at 5,106 metres in the dark with headlamps blazing is pure Himalayan adventure at its finest. The frozen moraines, the biting cold, the slow step toward the top is a test of will and fitness. And then you are there, standing on one of the highest trekking passes in Nepal, surrounded by an ocean of snow peaks including Himlung Himal and Kang Guru, with the whole world spread out beneath you. A long, triumphant descent brings you through the peaceful meadows of Bimthang and down through stunning rhododendron forests along the Dudh Khola River, all the way to the welcoming village of Tilje tired, fulfilled, and forever changed by the Manaslu Circuit Trek. On the last day we take a ride from Tiji where we say goodbye to our rollercoaster experience and events from the Manaslu Circuit Trek.

Why Choose the Manaslu Circuit Trek 12 Days?

The Manaslu Circuit is for people who want more than simply reaching a famous viewpoint. The trail takes you through a changing landscape where every few days the mountains, vegetation, villages and culture feel different.

One of the biggest attractions is Mount Manaslu itself. As you move toward Samagaon, the mountain becomes a huge presence above the valley. The views are not limited to Manaslu either. You can see many impressive Himalayan peaks and experience the feeling of being deep inside the mountains rather than simply visiting them from a distance.

The culture is another important reason to choose this trek. The lower part of the route has a strong Gurung and Nepalese character, while the higher villages have a strong Tibetan Buddhist influence. You will see prayer flags, mani walls, chortens, monasteries and traditional stone houses as you move deeper into the Nubri Valley.

Then there is Larkya La. The pass is the moment when the whole journey comes together. You have spent days gradually gaining altitude, and eventually you stand at more than 5,000 meters looking across an enormous Himalayan landscape.

The Manaslu Conservation Area is also known for its natural and cultural diversity. Nepal Tourism Board describes the area as an important trekking and mountaineering destination with a wide range of wildlife, vegetation and traditional culture.
