Overview

The Nar Phu Valley Trek is one of Nepal’s most rewarding journeys for travelers who want to go beyond the usual trekking routes. Far from the busy trails of the Annapurna Circuit, this trek takes you into the remote valleys of Nar and Phu, where ancient stone villages, Buddhist monasteries, high mountain landscapes, narrow gorges, and traditional Himalayan life are still part of everyday life.

The journey begins in the Annapurna region and follows the trail from Koto into the restricted Nar Phu Valley. As you walk deeper into the valley, the landscape changes from green forests and rushing rivers to dry, rocky mountains that feel almost Tibetan.

The biggest adventure comes when you cross Kang La Pass at around 5,320 meters (17,454 feet). From the top, you are rewarded with wide Himalayan views and a real sense of being in the high mountains.

At Igloo Himalaya Treks, we do not want your Nar Phu experience to feel like simply following a fixed itinerary. We arrange the trek with careful attention to walking pace, altitude, accommodation, meals, local culture, and your personal comfort. Our guides are there to help you understand the places you visit, not simply to lead you from one village to another.

If you are looking for a trek that combines adventure, Tibetan-influenced culture, mountain scenery and fewer people on the trail, Nar Phu Valley is an excellent choice.

Why Choose the Nar Phu Valley Trek?

Nar Phu is different from Nepal’s more popular trekking routes.

You will not spend every day walking through large trekking settlements filled with shops and busy restaurants. Instead, the trail leads through narrow mountain gorges, forests, yak pastures and small villages where life remains closely connected to the mountains.

Here are some of the experiences that make this trek special:

Explore the Remote Nar and Phu Valleys

The two villages of Nar and Phu are the heart of the trek. Their traditional stone houses, Buddhist monasteries, prayer flags and surrounding mountains create an atmosphere that feels very different from the main Annapurna trail.

Cross the High Kang La Pass

Crossing Kang La Pass is the most challenging and memorable part of the journey. At approximately 5,320 meters, the pass requires a long day of walking, but the mountain views from the top make the effort worthwhile.

Experience Tibetan-influenced Himalayan Culture

Nar and Phu have strong Tibetan Buddhist traditions. You will see monasteries, chortens, mani walls, prayer flags and traditional houses while experiencing the hospitality of local mountain communities.

Walk Far Away from the Crowds

If you have already seen how busy some of Nepal’s popular trekking routes can become, Nar Phu offers something different. The trail is much quieter and gives you more time to enjoy the landscape without constantly walking in a large crowd.

See Dramatically Changing Landscapes

The trek begins with forests and river valleys before gradually changing into a dry, rocky and high-altitude landscape. The contrast is one of the most interesting parts of the journey.

Enjoy Incredible Himalayan Views

Depending on weather and visibility, the trek offers views toward peaks and mountain ranges including Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Gangapurna, Tilicho Peak, Himlung Himal and the surrounding Chulu range.

Important Note

The Nar Phu Valley is a remote and high-altitude trekking region. Weather, road conditions and local circumstances can sometimes cause unexpected delays. We will do our best to assist you with any necessary changes, but additional costs resulting from delays, natural events or circumstances beyond our control are not included in the standard package.

We also strongly recommend that every trekker has travel insurance covering high-altitude trekking and emergency evacuation before starting the journey.
