Trek Overview
Welcome to the trek!
There are a handful of walks in the world that people dream about for years, and Everest Base Camp Trek 16 Days is one of them. The Everest Base Camp trek takes you on foot through the Khumbu region of Nepal, right up to the bottom of the highest mountain on earth. Mount Everest stands at 8,849 metres. You will not climb it, and you do not need to. Standing at its base at 5,364 metres, surrounded by ice, rock, and prayer flags, is enough to change how you think about mountains, and maybe about yourself.
Igloo Himalaya Treks have guided all sorts of people up this trail: students, retirees, and office workers who trained on a stairwell. Almost all of them made it. And what they remember afterwards is not only base camp itself. It is the whole two weeks. The wobbly suspension bridges. The bells on the yaks. The cup of ginger tea in a warm dining room while snow falls outside.
This Everest Base Camp Trek 16 days version of the trek is the one we recommend to most people. It follows the classic route from Lukla, but it builds in two full rest days so your body can adjust to the altitude, plus a spare day in Kathmandu in case mountain weather delays your flight. It is the safest, most comfortable way to do this walk, and it gives you time to actually enjoy it.
What the scenery is like Everest Base Camp Trek 16 Days ?
Photos of this trek only ever show the famous bits. The truth is that the trail changes completely as you climb, and that is half the fun! For the first few days, you walk through green river country. The trail follows the Dudh Koshi, a loud, milky-blue river fed by glaciers, and you cross it again and again on steel suspension bridges hung with prayer flags. Around you are pine forests, potato fields, and small villages where children wave at trekkers on their way to school. In spring, whole hillsides turn pink and red with rhododendron, Nepal’s national flower.
Above Namche Bazaar the land starts to open up. The forest thins to juniper and shrub, and you get your first proper views of Ama Dablam, a peak so elegant that many trekkers quietly decide it is more beautiful than Everest.
Past Dingboche, at around 4,400 metres, the trees are gone. Now you walk through a world of rock, ice, and glacier moraine, with mountains standing like walls on every side. Some people expect this stretch to feel bleak. It does not. The light up there is sharp and clean, the sky is a deeper blue than you have ever seen at home, and the silence between yak bells is total. By the time you reach base camp, beside the frozen chaos of the Khumbu Icefall, the green valleys of day one feel like a different country.
