Annapurna Luxury Trek Overview

Our nine-day Annapurna Luxury Trek follows a village route through Ghandruk, Landruk and Dhampus, combining mountain walking with comfortable accommodation. You stay in five-star hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara and mountain lodges along the trail. The programme includes guided Kathmandu sightseeing and flights between the two cities, with four walking days in the Annapurna foothills.

After a day exploring Kathmandu Valley, you fly to Pokhara and drive to Birethanti. The first walking stage leads uphill through terraced farmland towards Ghandruk, where stone houses sit above the Modi Khola valley. Annapurna South and Hiunchuli are visible in clear weather, with Machhapuchhre farther across the hills. Staying overnight gives you time to walk around the village after the main climb and settle into your lodge.

From Ghandruk, the trail descends towards the Modi Khola before climbing to Landruk on the opposite hillside. Forest paths and village trails continue towards Dhampus, with changing views across the valleys. The final walking stage descends to Phedi, where your vehicle meets you for the return to Pokhara and an overnight stay in the city.

This programme suits travellers who enjoy village walks and prefer more comfortable rooms after the day’s effort. The route remains in the foothills, with walking stages generally shorter than a base camp journey. However, stone staircases and repeated climbs require fitness. The lodges give you somewhere comfortable to rest, while the mountain paths remain an active part of the experience.

The itinerary includes three nights in Kathmandu, one in Pokhara and four in mountain lodges. After the trek, you fly back to Kathmandu before your departure from Nepal.

Trek Difficulty and Fitness

The village route is easy to moderate for prepared walkers, with three trekking days and a shorter final descent. Stone steps and climbs require effort, particularly around Ghandruk and the Modi Khola crossing. Comfortable lodges improve the overnight stay but do not remove the walking demands.

Previous hiking experience is helpful. First-time trekkers should become comfortable walking for several hours on uneven ground, including uphill paths and downhill steps.

Prepare with walks and gradually add hills, stairs and longer outings with a daypack. Include exercises for your legs and balance, particularly if descending steps troubles your knees. Practise in the footwear you will use during the trek.

Altitude and Acclimatisation

This route stays in the Annapurna foothills, around 2,000 metres rather than the high base camp valleys. No separate acclimatisation day is scheduled within the nine-day village trekking programme.

Altitude illness is less likely here than on higher treks, but feeling unwell needs attention. Tell your guide about headaches, nausea, dizziness or unusual fatigue. Rest when needed and seek medical advice if symptoms persist or worsen, rather than assuming every problem is caused by altitude.

Medical Conditions and Travel Insurance

If you have a medical condition, seek advice from a healthcare professional before booking. Explain the daily walking, stepped trails and any medicines you take during the trip.

Arrange travel insurance covering this walking route, medical treatment and emergency evacuation in Nepal. Check altitude limits, exclusions and the insurer’s assistance procedure, even for a lower trek. Carry your policy details and emergency contact number throughout the journey, including the flight stages.

Accommodation and Room Facilities

You stay in five-star hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara and comfortable mountain lodges in Birethanti, Ghandruk, Landruk and Dhampus. The itinerary includes eight overnight stays across these city and village stops.

Mountain lodges offer beds with bedding and hot showers, providing comfort after the day’s walk. Ask about the specific properties and room facilities for your dates, including bathroom arrangements, single-room requests and any supplements that may apply.

Food and Dietary Requirements

City breakfasts and the listed daily meals are included. Lodge menus offer Nepali and other dishes, with choices depending on the property.

Tell us about allergies or dietary requirements before booking so we can discuss what can be arranged at the lodges. Explain strict requirements clearly, including any concerns about shared cooking equipment.

Drinking Water

Carry reusable bottles and drink boiled or appropriately treated water. Untreated tap water and water from streams may contain germs that cause illness.

Boiling is the most reliable way to kill germs. If boiling is unavailable, filtration followed by disinfection offers broader protection than many portable filters alone. Follow the instructions for your water-treatment equipment or tablets.

Guide and Porter Support

An English-speaking guide and one porter for every two trekkers are included. Your porter carries the trekking luggage. You carry a daypack with water, weather protection, medicines and essentials needed during the day.

Showers, Charging and Communication

Hot showers are part of the lodge facilities, while internet and telephone charges are personal expenses. Connection speeds and mobile reception can vary along the route. Carry a power bank and keep information available offline rather than relying on a continuous signal throughout the walking days.

Permits and Documents

We arrange the required trekking permits, including ACAP, and the package’s sightseeing entry fees. Carry your passport and insurance details. We’ll confirm the documents needed for the village route before departure; your Nepal visa is separate.

Flight Delays and Extra Time

Kathmandu–Pokhara flights may be delayed or cancelled because of weather or airline operations. Keep flexibility around the journeys and allow time before international departure.

Additional accommodation or alternative transport may cost extra if the schedule changes. Ask us about the available arrangements and confirm details before booking travel.

Altitude Profile of the Annapurna Luxury Trek

After two nights in Kathmandu, you fly to Pokhara and continue to Birethanti. The route climbs towards Ghandruk, crosses the Modi Khola valley to Landruk and continues through the hills towards Dhampus. You descend to Phedi and return to Pokhara before flying back to Kathmandu.

Overnight Altitudes

Day Overnight Stop Approximate Altitude
Day 1–2 Kathmandu 1,350 m
Day 3 Birethanti 1,025 m
Day 4 Ghandruk 1,940 m; lodge location varies
Day 5 Landruk 1,565 m; lodge location varies
Day 6 Dhampus 1,650–1,740 m, depending on lodge
Day 7 Pokhara 827 m
Day 8 Kathmandu 1,350 m
Day 9 Departure No overnight stay

Elevations are approximate and follow the overnight stops in our itinerary.

Places Along Your Route

  • • Day 4 — Ghandruk: Around 1,940 m, with paths and lodge locations spread across the hillside.
  • • Day 5 — Modi Khola crossing: You descend below Ghandruk before climbing towards the lodge in Landruk.
  • • Day 6 — Pothana: Around 1,890 m on the usual trail between the Landruk and Dhampus hillsides.
  • • Day 7 — Phedi: Around 1,130 m, where the walking finishes before your transfer to Pokhara.

Village elevations and lodge heights can differ. The overnight table gives approximate locations; confirm the final lodge addresses and walking route when discussing your departure.

Weather and Best Time for the Annapurna Luxury Trek

Spring, from March to May, and autumn, from September to November, offer good opportunities for village walking and mountain views. Winter is also an option on this lower route, with colder mornings and evenings. Rain, haze and cloud can affect visibility and domestic flights.

Seasonal Weather Conditions

Season Months What to Expect
Spring March–May Days gradually become warmer. Flowers may appear along forest sections, depending on elevation and timing. March mornings can be cool, while May can bring haze, afternoon cloud and showers. Mountain views are clearest when skies remain open.
Autumn September–November Early September can retain monsoon rain. October and November generally offer clearer views after the rains, with cooler mornings and evenings. Rain or cloud can still interrupt the walking days or domestic flights.
Winter December–February This lower village route remains an option with appropriate clothing and current trail checks. Expect cold mornings and evenings, shorter daylight and possible slippery shaded steps. Clear mountain views are possible, but conditions vary.
Monsoon June–August, sometimes extending into September Rain can make stone steps and forest paths slippery. Cloud often hides the mountains, and road conditions or poor visibility may disrupt transfers and flights. Bring rain protection and allow flexibility around the itinerary.

These are seasonal patterns; conditions can vary from year to year and during an individual trek.

How Weather Changes Along the Route

Walking around Birethanti and the lower valley can feel warm in sunshine. Ghandruk and the higher sections are cooler, especially in the morning and after sunset during the colder months.

The route remains in the foothills, but winter mornings can still be cold and shaded steps may be slippery. During warmer months, afternoon cloud can hide the mountains. Carry layers and rain protection even when the morning begins clear.

Which Season Should You Choose?

Choose spring for warming days and possible forest flowers along the route. Choose autumn if clear mountain views are your main interest. Winter can suit walkers comfortable with cold mornings, while monsoon travel needs greater flexibility around rain and flights.

Frequently Asked Questions for Annapurna Luxury Trek

Everything you need to know about preparation, luxury lodges, foothill trails, mountain views, and booking:

General & Fitness

Can I do this trek without previous trekking experience? ∨
Yes, provided you prepare and can manage the daily walking. The route includes stone steps, climbs and descents over four walking days. Practise on hills beforehand and discuss your experience with us, especially if uneven ground feels difficult.
Can children and older travellers do this trek? ∨
It may suit families and older walkers, but suitability depends on individual fitness, mobility and health. The route includes several hours of walking, repeated steps and uneven ground. Discuss ages, experience and any concerns before choosing this programme.
What should I do if I feel unwell while trekking? ∨
Tell your guide and stop for a break if needed. Feeling unwell can have several causes, even on a lower trek. Persistent or worsening symptoms need medical advice; do not continue simply to keep the planned schedule.
What is the highest altitude on this itinerary? ∨
The walking route reaches around 2,000–2,100 metres in the Annapurna foothills, depending on the trail followed. Ghandruk is approximately 1,940 metres, while the route towards Dhampus can cross higher ground. Confirm the exact routing before departure.
Which mountains can I see on this trek? ∨
In clear weather, viewpoints offer views towards Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre. The mountains visible change with your location along the route. Cloud and haze can affect visibility, so views cannot be guaranteed during the trek.
Do we trek to Annapurna Base Camp? ∨
No. This nine-day programme follows the lower village route through Ghandruk, Landruk and Dhampus before returning to Pokhara. It includes comfortable lodge stays and Kathmandu sightseeing. Annapurna Base Camp requires a different itinerary that continues farther into the mountains.
Are all meals included during trekking? ∨
City hotel breakfasts and the meals listed in the daily itinerary are included. Lunches and dinners in Kathmandu and Pokhara are generally separate. Confirm the Birethanti lodge dinner and any meal arrangements with your quotation.
Do I need to carry my main trekking bag? ∨
A porter carries your main trekking luggage, with one porter shared between two trekkers. You carry your daypack containing water, weather protection, medicines and other daily essentials. Keep your passport, money and valuables with you.
Do I need to bring a sleeping bag and down jacket? ∨
Lodges provide bedding, so a sleeping bag is not normally necessary for this programme. Bring your warm clothing, including an insulated jacket for winter travel. We provide a duffel bag and trekking map; confirm any equipment needs.
Can I book as a solo traveller? ∨
Yes. The published solo starting price is from USD 1,695 per person. Send us your dates so we can check availability and confirm the final quotation, including your room arrangements and any applicable single-room supplement.
What should my insurance cover for this trek? ∨
Choose cover for trekking on this route, medical treatment and emergency evacuation in Nepal. Check the activity and altitude limits, exclusions and assistance procedure. Lower elevations do not remove the need to insure against illness, injury or disruption.
How does this differ from Annapurna Base Camp treks? ∨
This programme focuses on foothill villages, comfortable lodges and Kathmandu sightseeing, with four walking days. An Annapurna Base Camp trek continues through mountain valleys to 4,130 metres and involves longer walking and greater altitude exposure. Choose according to your interests.
